At the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, CD Projekt Red announced that the highly anticipated The Witcher 3 Remastered will meet players on September 29. According to the official statement, anyone who currently owns The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC will be able to upgrade to this new version completely free of charge. Furthermore, users who own the PS4 and Xbox One versions will also be eligible for this free upgrade.

The process for Nintendo Switch users works slightly differently. Switch owners will be able to get the Switch 2 version of the game for free. While those with digital copies can already place their pre-orders via the eShop, physical copy owners will be able to claim the update starting September 29. On the PlayStation side, those who own the game on PS4 or PS5 will be able to add the remastered version to their libraries on launch day. Additionally, the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansion packs have been made free for all users who own the base game.

A similar process is in place within the Xbox ecosystem. Xbox Series X|S owners will be able to download the update from the store on September 29. As an interesting detail, the expansion packs are currently available for free on the Xbox store. Steam users can already see the 'Complete Edition' label in their libraries; the game is expected to update automatically on this date. Furthermore, the version opened for pre-order via Battle.net comes with a special Geralt costume gift for Diablo 4.

What Does the Remastered Version Offer?

So, what exactly awaits players? The Witcher 3 Remastered is not limited to visual enhancements alone. Alongside improvements made to combat mechanics, the movement system, and mount controls, the photo mode has also been updated. Enemy behavior patterns have been overhauled, and new finishing moves have been added for Geralt. While the skill tree has been completely redesigned, a gear transmog system, which allows you to separate the appearance of your equipment from its stats, has also been included in the game. Along with all these innovations, CD Projekt Red also shared a teaser trailer for the new 'Songs of the Past' expansion pack.
