Apex Legends: Innovations Arrive with the Cipher Update
The Apex Legends Cipher update refreshes Crypto's abilities, introduces the Akimbo Wingman, and adds high-risk Stronghold zones to the game.

Apex Legends introduces significant gameplay-changing innovations with its new Cipher update. Crypto's playstyle has been completely overhauled, while the new Akimbo weapon type and high-stakes loot areas have been integrated into the map.
What has changed?
Thanks to a firmware update provided by Mila, Crypto has transitioned from a passive character to an aggressive intelligence-gathering legend. His surveillance drone now operates on a battery system rather than a cooldown, and the new Sentry Mode allows it to automatically mark enemies within its line of sight. Additionally, his EMP ability can now be activated with a single button press.
The newly added Stronghold zones offer high-quality loot as an advanced iteration of the Care Package mechanic. However, unlocking these crates takes time, and the sounding alarm alerts all nearby enemies to your location.
The era of dual-wielding has begun with the Akimbo Wingman. Furthermore, the Mythic Volt SMG (Cryptic Core) and new seasonal cosmetics are now available to players.
Balance and gameplay changes
- Revenant: Ultimate cooldown reduced, tactical ability speed increased, and new upgrades added that extend Ultimate duration upon scoring eliminations.
- Lifeline: D.O.C. cooldown reduced, with new abilities for mid-air self-healing and gaining a shield while reviving teammates.
- Ranked Bans: A new system has been implemented in Diamond and higher lobbies where each player votes to ban one Legend.
