A Plague Tale's New Game 'Resonance' Announced

The long-awaited new entry in the A Plague Tale series, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, has finally launched for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. During the Gamescom event, we met with Asobo Studio co-founder and game director David Dedeine and voice actress Anna Demetriou, who brings the character of Sophia to life, to discuss this new era of the franchise. The game serves as a prequel, detailing Sophia's journey to the island of the Minotaur and her confrontation with a legendary creature at the source of the curse.

A deepening bond with Sophia

While emphasizing how special the character of Sophia is to her, Anna Demetriou described the bond she formed with the character as follows: "Sophia is very familiar to me, almost like a character at the center of my own personality. I didn't feel like a stranger while portraying her." Demetriou also touched on her close working process with lead writer Carol Ann Bañuls, noting that having a say in the creative process and shaping the character together as an actress was a unique experience. The duo managed to consistently pave the way for Sophia's state in Requiem within this new title.

A breath of fresh air from traditional elements

Game director David Dedeine explained how the series has evolved after the story of Amicia and Hugo: "When Amicia and Hugo's story ended, we knew that continuing with the same formula would be a mistake. After spending seven years in the same universe, we needed some fresh air." Dedeine stated that the most challenging part was adding new flavors while preserving the soul of the series. Reassuring fans regarding the absence of the rat swarms that have become a hallmark of the series, Dedeine noted that the new threat replacing them is much more dynamic and full of surprises. How these new and creative elements of the game will be received by the loyal fan base remains a subject of curiosity.
