Embark Studios is making a significant change to its popular extraction shooter, Arc Raiders. Following extensive feedback from the community, the development team announced that the game's prestige system, known as the Expeditions mechanic, will be suspended until early 2027. The studio stated that they intend to use this time to address core game issues and implement more substantial improvements.

In an official statement on their website, the studio noted that they had taken into account player complaints regarding limited extraction times, the reward structure, and accessibility for new players. The Embark team acknowledged that these issues are too deep-seated to be resolved through minor patches, leading to the decision to undergo a more comprehensive revision process. The fifth Expedition, scheduled to run from September 8 to September 29, will be the final event of its kind until the system returns in 2027.

Community Reactions and Future Plans

The suspension of this mechanic, which served as a form of prestige system by resetting character progression to allow for a fresh start, has drawn mixed reactions from the community. While some players agree that the system was in dire need of refinement, others are concerned that it may further slow down the game's already limited progression. Additionally, the temporary halt of weekly Trials between September 22 and October 8 has faced criticism from some users.

Embark Studios has stated that existing Expedition progress will be preserved and that rewards, such as the Zenith outfit, will still be granted. Incomplete caravan progress will be converted into Ermal Vouchers. The studio aims to refocus player attention with the "Frozen Trail" update, which is scheduled to release in October and will feature a new map. However, the dedicated player base, which has been waiting a long time for new content, remains curious to see whether the studio's promise of a "major October surprise" will meet their expectations.
