The Boltgun series, which fuses the Warhammer 40,000 universe with 90s-style retro FPS gameplay, is making an exciting leap with its second installment. Developer Auroch Digital and publisher Big Fan Games have officially announced a collaboration with composer Mick Gordon, the legendary musician behind the soundtracks for titles such as Doom and Doom Eternal. Gordon has composed a brand-new track for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 to enhance the atmosphere of the new game.

Release Date and New Enemy Details

Alongside the announcement, the game's release date has been confirmed. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will meet players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 14. Developers have also confirmed that the game will be released for the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 console at a later date. The newly released trailer also unveiled the game's primary antagonist, Vashtorr the Arkifane, for the first time. Defined as the daemonic demigod of engineers, scientists, and artisans, this figure seems set to deepen the series' dark atmosphere even further.

Initial early previews in the gaming world have heaped praise on Boltgun 2's visual style. Critics note that the pixel-art aesthetic captures the oppressive and grimy reality of the 42nd millennium more successfully than many modern hyper-realistic titles, effectively conveying the pure spirit of 40K. On the musical front, Mick Gordon's involvement has generated significant anticipation, especially following his unforgettable work on the Doom series. Despite past controversies with producers, Gordon's impact on the music industry is undeniable; it was also recently announced that the composer would perform the soundtrack from the 2016 Doom game live for the first time at the RADAR 2027 festival. Now, all eyes are turned toward the impact this unique musical talent will have on the Warhammer universe.
