Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 5 Released: Packed Ice Bricks

Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 5 brings new building blocks and various technical enhancements to the game. This update introduces new ice-themed content and adjustments that affect the overall gameplay experience.

What Has Changed?

This snapshot adds Packed Ice Bricks to the game. These blocks can be crafted using 2x2 Packed Ice. Additionally, slab, stair, wall, and chiseled variants of these blocks are also available. All these varieties can now be processed on the Stonecutter. Furthermore, a new achievement, 'What Goes Around Comes Around,' is unlocked if you defeat a Frostbite creature with a Snowball.

Gameplay and Settings

Mobs can now use projectiles to break Decorated Pots, Chorus Flowers, and Pointed Dripstone blocks in adventure mode (provided the mob_griefing gamerule is not disabled). Ambient sounds have been added to ice blocks; the block has a chance to play a sound when surrounded by at least 8 ice blocks horizontally, with air above it and a water block below.

An experimental 'Prefer DXGI Present' option has been added to video settings for Windows users. This option supports DirectX usage, offering benefits such as Variable Refresh Rate support and faster alt-tab switching.

Technical Changes

• Data Pack version updated to 125.0, Resource Pack version to 100.2.
• A new packet structure has been added to the network protocol, requiring confirmation of encryption and compression settings during the login phase.
• Sound fields in the 'consumable' and 'equippable' sections of Data Components are now optional.
• 'ore' and 'scattered_ore' features have been updated in world generation processes.
• The 'interpolated' density function has been renamed to 'upscale', and sampling modes have been updated.
