The "Printed and Polished" update for Rust brings significant changes to the game's tech tree and blueprint system, while introducing the new UZI 9mm submachine gun and highly anticipated controller support.

Innovations in the Blueprint System

Workbenches no longer require blueprint fragments, and scrap is no longer spent on the tech tree. Instead, a new three-tier currency system consisting of fragments, pages, and books has been introduced. Items can still be researched at research tables using scrap. Lower-tier blueprints can now be found in common loot sources like barrels and crates and can be upgraded to higher tiers.

Balance and Gameplay Changes

  • Workbench Upgrades: Upgrades at the Salvage level now offer a 20% chance to not consume a blueprint. For Prototype-level upgrades, the cost-doubling mechanic has been removed and replaced with a fixed 25% success rate.
  • UZI 9mm: The newly added UZI 9mm features two different firing modes depending on its stock configuration. The weapon can fire automatically when folded and is compatible with shields; when unfolded, it switches to semi-automatic mode for higher accuracy. Players can toggle between modes using the fire mode key.
  • Livestock: Cattle no longer die of old age and will collapse at 1 health point instead of dying of hunger. The ownership system has been simplified; purchasing a cow or feeding it in a trough is sufficient to establish ownership. Additionally, the feeding and breeding status of cattle can now be viewed in detail via the interface.

Other Confirmed Details

Rust now features official controller support via Steam Input. The inventory and crafting interface are controlled by an analog cursor by default, though a D-pad control option can also be enabled in the controller settings menu.
