Bringing a fresh breath to the world of Rust, the "Shipshape" update shifts your struggle for survival onto the high seas. With this month's update, the duration of the day has been extended by approximately 20 minutes, providing players with a wider window to take advantage of daylight. Night duration remains unchanged at approximately 10 minutes, ensuring that nighttime tactics remain just as viable as before.

Marine Transport and Construction Improvements

The boat construction system, long requested by players, has become significantly more practical with this patch. You can now rotate or demolish construction blocks at any time while in "edit mode"; the 5-minute time restriction has been removed. Additionally, minor dive site buoys that caused boats to get stuck have been fixed, and bugs that caused sails to disappear for no reason have been resolved. A new error message added to the steering system eliminates ambiguity by clearly showing why you may be unable to access the helm.

Another innovation enriching the nautical experience is the ability to use electrical, industrial, and water systems on boats. Many pieces of equipment can now be installed on vessels, though for balance reasons, certain items such as auto turrets, SAM sites, and wind turbines remain restricted for now. Furthermore, you can now decorate your boats with wallpapers, just like you would with your homes.

Deep Sea and Naval Combat

Balance adjustments made in the Deep Sea region fundamentally change the dynamics of naval combat. Loot now respawns slowly over time and appears randomly across different parts of the map, heightening the thrill of exploration. Changes such as preventing the Deep Sea region from opening immediately after server wipes and restricting RHIB usage are intended to maintain game balance. Additionally, the viewing distance has been increased to 620 meters, allowing you to spot ships from much further away.

Finally, to make naval battles more competitive, a movement penalty has been added to boats struck by cannon fire. Consecutive hits can reduce a ship's speed to 30% of its maximum. This increases the likelihood of the opposing side boarding the vessel and initiating close-quarters combat. The added protection introduced for players manning cannons will also allow you to survive longer during intense battles.
