Apex Legends: Ranked Matchmaking Test Results Announced
The Apex Legends team has shared the results and data gathered from the ranked matchmaking tests conducted during the Overclocked season.

The Apex Legends developers have revealed the results of two different matchmaking tests implemented in ranked mode throughout the Overclocked season. The development team examined the impact of premade squads consisting of highly skilled players on the imbalances within ranked lobbies.
Test Results and Observations
The key data obtained from the tests are as follows:
- Premade three-player squads have a 17% higher win rate compared to teams consisting entirely of solo players.
- Groups consisting of a premade duo and one solo player have a 19% higher win rate.
- 85% of teams at the Master rank consist of premade three-player groups.
Tested Methods and Decisions
Tier Restriction (Test 1): The goal was for players to only be able to match with friends within one rank above or below their own. However, data showed that this restriction created an 8% change for only a small group of players and did not provide a meaningful improvement in the overall experience. Therefore, the two-rank difference rule will remain in place.
Solo Queue (Test 2): It was tested whether Diamond, Master, and Predator players should only be matched as solo players. Although this restriction aimed to remove the premade squad advantage in high-level lobbies, the win rate gap between the strongest teams in the lobby and other players remained steady at 9%. In other words, even without premade squads, the best players continued to win.
Other Confirmed Details
The data revealed that the coordination advantage in the matchmaking system is not being fully measured within the ranked points (RP) system. The development team stated that the data obtained from these tests will continue to be used to improve the system.
